Our practice specializes in providing compassionate, evidence-based support for individuals experiencing a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, behavioral and anger issues, women’s issues, emotional disturbances, family conflict, parenting challenges, peer relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, coping struggles, ADHD, and substance use disorders.

Candice Caddle, LPC, LSATP

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Candice Caddle is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner (LSATP) in the state of Virginia. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Old Dominion University in 2013 and her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University in 2017.

Candice has worked in the mental health field since 2012 and brings a wealth of experience from diverse treatment settings, including outpatient clinics, psychiatric hospitals, community-based services, and substance abuse treatment programs.

She specializes in the treatment of co-occurring disorders—particularly substance use and mental health conditions—as well as addiction, mood disorders, anxiety, depression, grief, anger management, women’s issues, and adjustment disorders.

Candice takes an eclectic and client-centered approach to therapy, tailoring her work to each individual’s needs using techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy.

In addition to her clinical work, Candice is a Board-Approved Clinical Supervisor in Virginia, offering supervision for LPC and LMFT residents, as well as CSAC supervisees pursuing licensure and certification in substance abuse counseling.

Candice is passionate about helping individuals heal, grow, and move forward with confidence and clarity.

Yolanda Murrell, MSW, Supervisee in Social Work.

Therapist

Yolanda Murrell brings over 19 years of dedicated experience in the mental health and child welfare fields. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Norfolk State University (2006), a Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Phoenix (2010), and a Master’s in Social Work from Capella University (2023).

Yolanda has worked extensively within the foster care and adoption system, child protective services, and family engagement units. Her passion for helping individuals and families heal and reconnect has been the foundation of her professional journey.

She is certified to facilitate Family Partnership Meetings, Darkness to Light: Sexual Abuse Prevention Trainings, Circle of Parents (parenting support groups), and Healing Trauma: A Brief Intervention for Women and Gender-Diverse People.

Yolanda specializes in supporting clients through family reunification, mood disorders, anxiety, depression, grief, anger management, and adjustment disorders. She is skilled in working with men, women, teens, families, and couples, and uses a flexible, client-centered approach to meet each individual’s unique needs.

Her therapeutic approach incorporates a variety of evidence-based modalities, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Tanitha Nicholas, Resident in Counseling

Holistic Wellness Advocate | Therapist

Tanitha Nicholas is a Resident in Counseling in the state of Virginia, committed to helping individuals achieve balance and well-being through a holistic, mindfulness-based approach to therapy. She holds both a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science and a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Florida.

Tanitha believes that true healing goes beyond symptom management. She works collaboratively with her clients to uncover and address the root causes of emotional and physical distress—guiding them toward long-lasting change and personal transformation. Her therapeutic philosophy centers around the idea that mental and physical wellness are deeply interconnected, and that achieving harmony between the two is essential to living a fulfilling and empowered life.

Her diverse background includes experience in personal training and wellness education, where she led fitness assessments, nutritional counseling, and wellness workshops across a variety of settings. In the mental health field, Tanitha has worked with individuals navigating addiction, complex trauma, PTSD, ADHD, eating disorders, and persistent mental health challenges. She has extensive experience supporting veterans, individuals experiencing homelessness, and members of marginalized communities, including those exploring gender identity, LGBTQIA+ issues, and living with HIV/AIDS.

As a Florida native, Tanitha embraces self-care through movement, herbal wellness, and time near the ocean. She is passionate about breaking down the stigma around therapy and creating inclusive, affirming spaces for healing and growth.

Tanitha is honored to walk alongside her clients as they work toward reclaiming their health, resilience, and sense of self.

Rekita Nichols

Counseling Intern

Rekita Nichols was born in Norfolk, Virginia, and raised in the Tidewater area. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University in 2012 and is currently in her final year of ODU’s Master’s in Counseling program. Rekita is passionate about supporting individuals in achieving emotional wellness and personal growth. Her professional interests include working with diverse populations, addressing life transitions, and helping clients develop healthy coping strategies. As a counseling intern, she is committed to providing a safe, empathetic, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel empowered to explore their goals and challenges.

Heedaya Issa, B.S Psych, CCMA

Practicum Counseling Student

Heedaya Issa is a second-year master’s student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Old Dominion University, where she also earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She is passionate about supporting clients through life’s challenges with empathy, cultural awareness, and a strengths-based approach.

Before beginning her graduate studies, Heedaya worked as a medical assistant in a variety of specialty offices, including a pediatric practice that specialized in working with children on the autism spectrum. These experiences gave her a strong foundation in patient care, communication, and multidisciplinary collaboration. While she valued her experience in physical healthcare, she felt called to dedicate more of her work to the mental and emotional well-being of others.

As a Palestinian American, Heedaya values honoring each client’s cultural identity, personal experiences, and unique strengths throughout the counseling process. While a beginner counselor-in-training, she is committed to strengthening her knowledge and expertise in a variety of counseling areas. During her practicum at A Step to Healing, she is focused on developing her clinical skills through direct client work, active listening, and evidence-based interventions, while upholding the highest ethical standards. Her professional interests include anxiety management, depression, life transitions, and the intersection of cultural identity and mental health.
